WASHINGTON—Today, Idaho Congressman Mike Simpson has successfully secured $1,852,000 for the Butte County Buildings Infrastructure Project in Butte County, Idaho. The funding was included at his request through Community Project Funding (CPF) in the Fiscal Year 2024 Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies Appropriations Bill.

In response to criticisms about CPF projects, Congressman Simpson emphasized the importance of such initiatives, stating that they allow Members of Congress to allocate funds back to their respective states for essential projects. He highlighted that CPF projects respond to clear community needs and enjoy widespread support. The funds designated for CPF projects are within existing budget limits and provide local communities with a significant role in determining the allocation of budgeted funds.

Expressing the critical nature of the infrastructure repairs, Rep. Simpson stated, “County buildings in Butte are in dire need of infrastructure repairs, and without federal support, these pressing repairs would likely go unsolved. Supporting and assisting our local communities is one of my top priorities in Congress. I am proud to secure funding to help Butte County address its public building infrastructure needs.”

Hootie Langseth, Butte County Commissioner, expressed gratitude for Congressman Simpson's efforts, saying, “Butte County is very grateful to have Congressman Simpson working hard to ensure that the needs of Idaho's citizens are met. Butte County will finally be able to complete necessary infrastructure upgrades to various County buildings, including the Sheriff's Office roof, ensuring that the response of emergency services will not be hindered.”

The funding secured by Rep. Simpson will be utilized to replace roofing infrastructure at key locations such as the Sheriff’s Office, Butte County Business Center, and the Health Department. Additionally, the funds will address issues with crumbling sidewalks and parking lots, which pose risks to public safety. The deteriorating roofs have compromised structural integrity, leading to leaks that have damaged essential facilities used for community events and public services.

As Idaho’s sole appropriator, Rep. Simpson plays a crucial role in advocating for Idaho's priorities and ensuring that tax dollars from Idaho residents are reinvested in the state. In a show of support, Rep. Simpson was the only member of the Idaho delegation to vote in favor of funding for the Butte County buildings.
