U.S. Senate Finance Committee Chairman Mike Crapo has addressed the nomination of Frank Bisignano for Commissioner of the Social Security Administration (SSA). Bisignano, currently serving as Chairman and CEO of Fiserv, Inc., a leader in financial technology, is under consideration for the position, which Crapo emphasized needs steady, Senate-confirmed leadership.
During the session, Crapo highlighted Bisignano's "more than 30 years of executive leadership experience in banks and financial institutions." At his nomination hearing, Bisignano shared plans to improve SSA services, mentioning reductions in wait times for the SSA’s National 800 Number and claims decisions. He also promised to leverage information technology to enhance performance and commit to offering varied methods of communication for SSA interaction.
Crapo also addressed allegations from an anonymous source claiming Bisignano had connections with DOGE and was influencing SSA hires. Crapo noted, "Mr. Bisignano does not currently hold a position at the Social Security Administration, let alone a decision-making position." Although the allegations delayed proceedings, Bisignano provided written responses denying influence over SSA operations and clarified his limited interactions with agency personnel.
The Committee Chair conveyed willingness to meet with the anonymous whistleblower while emphasizing the need for thorough vetting of the allegations. He reiterated the importance of transparency and due diligence in the process, stating, "The nominee has responded in writing to these allegations."
Crapo concluded by asking his colleagues to support the nomination, expressing confidence in Bisignano's potential to improve SSA operations through his customer service and operational expertise.
