U.S. Senators Jim Risch from Idaho and Tommy Tuberville from Alabama have issued a letter urging state governors to adhere to former President Trump's Executive Order, which seeks to prevent biological men from participating in women's sports. While states such as Idaho and Alabama have taken steps to protect the integrity of women's sports, the senators emphasize that other states' inaction could compromise fair opportunities for female athletes.
The letter, directed to the National Governors Association, stresses the importance of state-level measures to ensure fairness for female athletes nationwide. "State-level action is vital to ensure America’s female athletes receive the same assurance of fairness nationwide. We applaud the many states that have answered the call and taken meaningful action to support President Trump’s Executive Order," wrote Senators Risch and Tuberville. They underscore that allowing biological men to compete in women's sports poses a threat to both the fairness and safety of these athletes, urging unaffected states to implement necessary protections as stipulated in the Executive Order.
This call to action follows the introduction of the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act by Risch and Tuberville, aiming to officially establish Trump's Executive Order into law. Furthermore, the senators have communicated with the International Olympic Committee to protect female athletes' opportunities on the global stage and with the NCAA to clarify policies regarding the safety and privacy of female athletes in locker rooms.
The full letter is available through the National Governors Association.
