Idaho Congressman Mike Simpson cast a favorable vote for H.R. 22, known as the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, in Washington. The proposed legislation seeks to mandate the presentation of citizenship proof for voter registration in federal elections.
"Only American citizens should decide American elections," stated Rep. Simpson. His decision reflects concerns over the immigration policies under President Biden and Vice President Harris, believed to have increased the number of illegal immigrants entering the country. "Due to these failed open border policies, Congress must take decisive action to safeguard the integrity of our elections," Simpson remarked, advocating for the verification of citizenship during voter registration as a "common-sense solution."
The proposal received congressional approval, passing with a vote of 220-208. Simpson expressed his ambition to advance the bill to President Trump's desk, emphasizing the importance of strengthening election laws.
