Idaho Congressman Mike Simpson has announced the nomination of 19 Idaho students to United States Military Academies. The nominations were made as part of the annual process where Members of Congress have the opportunity to nominate candidates for appointment to the prestigious academies.

In expressing his pride in the students, Rep. Simpson said, "One of the greatest honors of my job is to nominate students in Idaho’s Second District to become the next generation of military leaders. United States Military Academies provide students with a great opportunity to serve our nation while pursuing a higher education. I admire these bright young Idahoans' willingness to serve, and I look forward to seeing their continued achievements in their future endeavors."

The nominations cover three different academies - the United States Military Academy in West Point, NY; the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD; and the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO. In addition, one student has been nominated for the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, NY.

The list of nominees includes students from various schools across Idaho, including Century High School, Idaho Falls High School, Preston High School, Jerome High School, The Sage School, Capital High School, Wood River High School, Timberline High School, Ladue Horton Watkins High School, Bishop Kelly High School, Borah High School, Rigby High School, Sun Valley Community School, Renaissance High School, Mountain Home High School, Pocatello High School, and Bellevue High School.

The nominations are just the first step in the process. After receiving their nominations, the candidates will have their applications evaluated by the respective Academies, who will then make the final decision on admittance.

The Congressman's nomination list includes several students who have been nominated for multiple academies, demonstrating their exceptional qualities and dedication to serving their country. For example, Josh Agres from Pocatello, Century High School has received nominations for both the United States Military Academy and the United States Naval Academy. Similarly, Troy Larsen from Jerome, Jerome High School has been nominated for all three academies - the United States Military Academy, the United States Naval Academy, and the United States Air Force Academy.

Overall, these nominations highlight the talent and commitment of Idaho's youth to serve in the military and pursue a higher education. The United States Military Academies provide a unique opportunity for these students to receive a world-class education while preparing for future leadership roles in the armed forces.
