U.S. Senate Finance Committee Chairman Mike Crapo (R-Idaho) delivered remarks during an executive session to consider the nomination of Michael Faulkender for the position of Deputy Treasury Secretary.
In his prepared statement, Crapo highlighted Faulkender's extensive experience in both public and private sectors, along with his academic qualifications. "Mr. Faulkender has years of public and private sector experience, in addition to strong academic credentials. His background makes him the quintessential pick to serve as Deputy Treasury Secretary," said Crapo.
Crapo emphasized the thoroughness of the Finance Committee's nomination process, noting that nominees who complete all steps deserve a public hearing followed by a vote. "Mr. Faulkender sat for hours of questions from Members and staff of this Committee and provided thoughtful answers," Crapo stated, adding that Faulkender also responded judiciously to written questions.
The nominee addressed inquiries related to Department of Government Efficiency work at Treasury and the IRS, pledging to provide a briefing on the Treasury payments system if confirmed. "I thank Mr. Faulkender for this commitment, and for his time working through this rigorous process," Crapo expressed.
Crapo concluded by urging bipartisan support for Faulkender's nomination, citing past qualified nominees who received such backing: "Qualified nominees for this position in prior congresses garnered bipartisan support. I encourage my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to join me today to vote in favor of Mr. Faulkender’s nomination."
