WASHINGTON—Idaho Congressman Mike Simpson has successfully advocated for the inclusion of $4,304,000 in the Fiscal Year 2024 Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies Appropriations Bill to fund a new fire station for the Shelley-Firth Fire District in Firth, Idaho.
Rep. Simpson emphasized the importance of the funding, stating, “Thanks to swift responses and diligent work, Shelley-Firth firefighters serve and protect our communities every day.” The new fire station is crucial for ensuring the safety and well-being of the residents in the area.
Firth Battalion Chief, La Var Jolley, expressed gratitude for Congressman Simpson's efforts, saying, “I truly appreciate the work done by Congressman Simpson and his staff in obtaining funding to help build and equip a fire station that will serve our growing area.”
Kenneth Johnson, District Fire Commissioner, highlighted the significance of the new fire station for improved emergency response times, stating, “After serving as a Fire Commissioner for the past year and one half, I have seen the importance of a fire station in Firth. It affects response times which increases the service we can offer to the community.”
Firth Mayor Brandon Jolley also commended Rep. Simpson for his dedication to the project, noting, “The Firth Fire station provides a key service to our community. In Fire and EMS, response seconds make a difference. We appreciate Congressman Simpson and his efforts to bring this federal funding to our community.”
The funding secured by Rep. Simpson will be utilized to construct a new fire station for the Shelley-Firth Fire District, addressing the critical need for updated facilities. The current situation, where volunteer firefighters operate from a rented space using limited equipment, hinders their ability to provide essential services effectively.
As Idaho’s sole appropriator, Rep. Simpson's advocacy ensures that Idaho's priorities are supported, with a focus on ensuring that tax dollars benefit local communities. Rep. Simpson's unwavering support for the new Shelley-Firth Fire Station demonstrates his commitment to serving and protecting the residents of Idaho.
