U.S. Senators Mike Crapo, Jim Risch, and their Republican colleagues have called on the Biden administration to take action and protect Jewish students from antisemitic mobs on college campuses. In a letter addressed to Attorney General Merrick Garland and Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona, the Senators emphasized the need to restore order and ensure the safety of Jewish students who have been targeted.
The Senators, including Tom Cotton from Arkansas, Lindsey Graham from South Carolina, and Mitch McConnell from Kentucky, among others, urged for immediate action in response to the recent antisemitic attacks on campuses. They highlighted President Biden's statement condemning the outbreaks of antisemitism and emphasized the importance of accompanying that statement with tangible actions to safeguard Jewish students.
"You need to take action to restore order and protect Jewish students on our college campuses," the Senators wrote in their letter. They requested updates from Attorney General Garland and Secretary Cardona on the efforts being made to address the situation and ensure the safety of Jewish students. The deadline for the update was set for Wednesday, April 24.
The letter was co-signed by a total of 26 Senate Republicans, including John Barrasso, Marsha Blackburn, Ted Cruz, and Joni Ernst, among others. The full text of the letter can be accessed for further details on their call to action.
The Senators' collective effort underscores the urgency and seriousness with which they view the need for intervention to protect Jewish students from the rising threats of antisemitism on college campuses. The Biden administration is now under pressure to respond promptly and effectively to ensure the safety and well-being of all students facing such targeted attacks.
