U.S. Senator Jim Risch (R-Idaho) has addressed a letter to U.S. Secret Service Acting Director Ronald Rowe Jr., seeking explanations for the agency's failure to prevent an assassination attempt on President Donald Trump, despite having prior knowledge of the perpetrator’s suspicious and threatening behavior.
“When questioned about this threat to President Trump and the Secret Service’s responsibility, Former Director Cheatle deflected blame. She was wrong. The Secret Service neglected its foundational duty, failing to secure the site of the rally and slow-walking a response to an active threat on the former President,” wrote Risch. “As a direct result, an innocent bystander was murdered and three, including the Republican nominee for President, were injured. While appropriate that Director Cheatle resigned, this incident nonetheless raises serious questions about the effectiveness and decision-making of the Secret Service’s leadership and protocols.”
