U.S. Representatives Mike Simpson and Russ Fulcher, along with U.S. Senators Jim Risch and Mike Crapo, have criticized the Biden-Harris administration for its handling of border policies, which they claim have contributed to an increase in fentanyl entering Idaho. The lawmakers assert that the current administration's approach has led to historic levels of the drug crossing into the United States through the southern border.
According to their statement, fentanyl overdoses are now the leading cause of death among individuals aged 18 to 45 in Idaho, resulting in 197 fatalities last year. The group contends that "the Biden-Harris administration’s open-border policies have done nothing but imperil national security and endanger law-abiding citizens."
The Idaho delegation further accuses the administration of exacerbating the crisis at the border from "day one" and undermining efforts to secure it. They argue that by allowing drug cartels to exploit vulnerabilities at the southern border, "the Biden-Harris administration is complicit in the flow of fentanyl into our country," which they say is having a direct impact on families in Idaho.
