The United States House of Representatives has passed the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) of 2024, designated as S. 4367. This bipartisan legislation empowers the United States Army Corps of Engineers Civil Works Program to undertake projects aimed at enhancing the nation's water resources infrastructure, including ports, harbors, inland waterways, and flood protection.

Idaho Congressman Mike Simpson played a pivotal role in securing a provision within this bill that authorizes funding for improvements to the City of Burley's Industrial Wastewater Treatment Plant. "This bill supports locally driven projects that benefit communities nationwide," stated Rep. Simpson. He emphasized that with this legislation, the Army Corps of Engineers can now assist Burley in enhancing its wastewater treatment capacity, which is expected to attract more businesses and bolster economic growth in the area.

Brett Boyer, Burley City Administrator, expressed gratitude for Representative Simpson's efforts: "Burley’s agricultural processing companies are pillars of the region’s economy. To maintain the current level of production and sustain future growth, the Industrial Wastewater Treatment Plant’s repair and expansion is paramount." Boyer highlighted their anticipation to collaborate with Simpson's office on this project in coming years.

The measure was approved by a significant majority vote of 399-18. The complete text of the bill is available for public access.
