Idaho Congressman Mike Simpson has cast his vote in favor of H.R.27, known as the Halt All Lethal Trafficking of (HALT) Fentanyl Act. This legislation aims to permanently extend the Schedule I classification for fentanyl-related substances that was established under President Trump in 2018. The goal is to provide law enforcement with enhanced tools to combat the distribution of illicit drugs.

"We cannot afford to waste any time in the fight against the fentanyl crisis, which is devastating families and communities across the country," stated Rep. Simpson. He emphasized the importance of congressional action alongside presidential efforts, noting, "As President Trump takes decisive action to halt the flood of this deadly drug pouring across our southern border, Congress is also working to combat this epidemic, remove fentanyl from our streets, and give our brave law enforcement officers the tools they need to save American lives." Simpson expressed pride in supporting what he described as an important legislative step.

The HALT Fentanyl Act was passed with a significant majority, receiving a vote count of 312-108.
