U.S. Senators Jim Risch, Mike Crapo, and Majority Leader John Thune have introduced legislation to permanently repeal the federal estate tax, commonly known as the death tax. The Death Tax Repeal Act aims to eliminate this tax, which can significantly impact family-run farms, ranches, and businesses after a family member's death.

"The death tax unfairly targets Idaho’s multi-generational farms and small businesses by saddling them with a costly tax bill after the death of a loved one. We must stop this madness and protect America’s family-run operations," said Risch.

Crapo added that "small businesses are the lifeblood of Idaho’s economy, and family farmers, ranchers and entrepreneurs have often worked lifetimes to grow their businesses." He emphasized that "the death tax can be a devastating blow to American families who want to pass down their farm or small business to the next generation."

Thune stated that "family farms and ranches play a vital role in our economy and are the lifeblood of rural communities in South Dakota." He noted that "losing even one of them to the death tax is one too many" and called for an end to what he described as a "punishing, burdensome tax."
