Idaho Congressman Mike Simpson has joined forces with over 170 of his colleagues in the House of Representatives to support the Main Street Tax Certainty Act. This bill, spearheaded by Rep. Lloyd Smucker from Pennsylvania, aims to make Section 199A of the Internal Revenue Code permanent. The section is currently set to expire at the end of this year, and its expiration could result in a significant tax increase for small businesses.
The legislation has garnered support from more than 230 organizations. "Small businesses are the backbone of Idaho’s economy," said Rep. Simpson. He emphasized that making Section 199A permanent would benefit not only small businesses but also the broader economy and American families. He expressed his commitment to working with colleagues and the Trump administration to renew key provisions of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.
Rep. Lloyd Smucker echoed these sentiments, highlighting the importance of predictability for small businesses. "When small businesses thrive, our communities thrive," he stated, adding that permanence for Section 199A would provide much-needed certainty for investment in workforce and operations.
In parallel efforts, U.S. Senator Steve Daines from Montana has introduced similar legislation in the Senate.
