Idaho Congressman Mike Simpson has cast his vote in favor of the Full-Year Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act, ensuring that the federal government remains funded and operational until September 30, 2025. The legislation includes a provision authored by Simpson, who serves as Chairman of the House Interior and Environment Appropriations Subcommittee. This provision focuses on funding for Wildland Fire Management and establishes a permanent pay solution for wildland firefighters.
Simpson commented on the resolution's passage: “Passing this continuing resolution keeps the government open for hardworking Americans while allowing Congress and the Trump administration to maintain momentum and deliver America First policies that the American people overwhelmingly voted for.” He highlighted key victories secured by the bill, such as "the largest pay raise for junior enlisted servicemembers in over 40 years" and a permanent pay fix for wildland firefighters, which he championed.
The Congressman expressed disappointment over the lack of support from most Democrat colleagues, stating their opposition "once again highlights their hostility to President Trump and his agenda." Despite this, the bill passed narrowly with a vote of 217-213.
Previously, Simpson's Interior Appropriations bill had included a similar permanent pay fix for federal wildland firefighters and was passed by the House in July 2024. He also released an op-ed discussing why such a pay fix is necessary.
