Washington, D.C.--U.S. Senators Mike Crapo and Jim Risch, along with U.S. Congressman Russ Fulcher (all R-Idaho), today sent a letter to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers demanding immediate action to enable the Albeni Falls Dam in North Idaho to resume normal operations.

“Albeni Falls Dam provides flood control, energy production, and recreational opportunities for residents and visitors alike. It is of great interest to us and our constituents how dam operations will be affected by the discovery of the defects in the spillway gate. We urge the Corps to give this matter the highest priority […] and find the resources necessary to return Albeni Falls Dam to regular operations,” wrote the legislators.

Earlier this year, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers discovered a defect in the metal of a spillway gate at Albeni Falls Dam. The Corps reduced operations of all spillway gates, impacting water levels on Lake Pend Oreille and the Pend Oreille River. This is limiting critical recreation for the community and hurting business owners and residents throughout the region.
