City of Blackfoot issued the following announcement on March 21.
Bill 1270 The Down Syndrome Diagnosis Information Act was developed by the Idaho Down Syndrome Council.
Individuals from The Eastern Idaho Down Syndrome organization (who are part of the council) were able to speak before the Senate Health and Welfare Committee in support of the bill. Two of the speakers were young men who have Down Syndrome. The bill passed unanimously and was sent to the Senate where it passed unanimously.
Other members of the Council spoke to the House Health and Welfare Committee in support of the bill. One of the speakers was a young woman who has Down Syndrome. Once again, the bill passed unanimously and was sent to the House where it also passed unanimously.
Bill 1270 will be signed by Governor Little on Monday, March 21 (National Down Syndrome Day). Members of the Idaho Down Syndrome Council have been invited to a ceremonial signing of the bill.
Bill 1270 will ensure parents who receive a diagnosis of Down Syndrome will be provided information on Down Syndrome.
