Elaine Clegg confirmed to Amtrak Board; brings focus on expanding rail service

U.S. Senator Mike Crapo of Idaho has expressed his support following the unanimous confirmation of Elaine Clegg to the Amtrak Board of Directors by the U.S. Senate. In a statement, Crapo emphasized the significance of this appointment for Idaho, stating, “Elaine Clegg’s appointment gives Idaho a voice on the Amtrak Board.” He added that Clegg has been an advocate for expanding Amtrak service in Idaho and looks forward to her contributions in her new role.

The U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation had previously approved Clegg's nomination on December 12, 2024.

Clegg is currently the CEO of Valley Regional Transit and has served nearly two decades on the Boise City Council. Her efforts have been focused on reestablishing passenger rail services in Idaho and across the Northwest region. She has also held leadership positions with several organizations including Valley Regional Transit, Community Planning Association of Southwest Idaho, Association of Idaho Cities at both state and national levels, as well as with the National League of Cities Transportation Infrastructure Services Committee.
