The U.S. Senate has unanimously passed a bill to name the United States Postal Service facility at 154 First Avenue East in Jerome, Idaho, as the "Representative Maxine Bell Post Office." The legislation was introduced by U.S. Senators Mike Crapo and Jim Risch, both representing Idaho.
Maxine Bell served in the Idaho House of Representatives from 1988 to 2018. During her time in office, she was Co-Chair of the Joint Finance and Appropriations Committee (JFAC). Bell earned an Associate of Arts degree in library science from the College of Southern Idaho and also attended Idaho State University. Her career included work as a librarian.
Senator Crapo remarked on Bell's influence: “Representative Bell’s wisdom and guidance leading JFAC has had a profound and lasting impact on the fiscal responsibility of the state of Idaho,” adding that her leadership extends beyond her legislative work.
Senator Risch praised Bell's dedication: “Representative Maxine Bell dedicated her life to serving her community and the people of Idaho.” He noted that her three-decade tenure brought significant progress to Magic Valley and strengthened Idaho.
City of Jerome Mayor Dave Davis expressed his support for the honor: "I cannot think of a more deserving person for this honor," he said, highlighting Bell's years of service to their community.
Dean Fisher, President of the College of Southern Idaho, commended Senators Crapo and Risch for sponsoring the legislation: “Her life has been dedicated to improving the lives of Idahoans through the power of education.”
