U.S. Senators Mike Crapo and Jim Risch, along with U.S. Representatives Mike Simpson and Russ Fulcher, have called on the Biden-Harris Administration to address its handling of fentanyl trafficking into Idaho through the southern border. The delegation criticizes what they describe as lax border policies that have allowed significant amounts of fentanyl to enter the United States.
The lawmakers assert that fentanyl overdoses are now the leading cause of death for individuals aged 18 to 45 in Idaho, resulting in 197 fatalities last year. They attribute this crisis to what they term "open-border policies" implemented by the current administration.
"It is apparent that the Biden-Harris Administration’s open-border policies have done nothing but imperil national security and endanger law-abiding citizens," stated the group of lawmakers. They further claimed, "Since day one, this Administration exacerbated the crisis at our border and undermined the efforts of those trying to secure it."
They accuse the administration of being complicit in allowing drug cartels to exploit vulnerabilities at the southern border, thereby facilitating the influx of fentanyl into the country. The delegation emphasized that "Idaho families are paying the price" for these policies.
