U.S. Senators Jim Risch and Mike Crapo, along with Representatives Mike Simpson and Russ Fulcher, have expressed their approval of the actions taken by President Trump and Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem to secure the southern border. In a letter, the Idaho delegation emphasized significant achievements, such as the arrest of over 14,000 convicted illegal criminals in the first 50 days of their leadership. Many of the individuals apprehended were reported to be cartel and gang members.
The delegation stated, “Under your leadership, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has arrested over 14,000 convicted illegal criminals within the first 50 days, many of which were known cartel and gang members. Our nation is witnessing the lowest number of apprehensions at the southern border in over 15 years, sending a clear message to dangerous criminals that they are no longer welcome to come into the U.S. Your aggressive action to secure and safeguard our border has made our neighborhoods safer. As members of the Idaho delegation, we look forward to working together to provide the resources you need to maintain this historic border security.”
The letter also acknowledged the role of Idaho Governor Brad Little, who committed state law enforcement resources to aid Texas and Arizona in addressing issues at the southern border attributed to the policies of the Biden administration. Further measures taken by Idaho include establishing a dedicated drug interdiction unit, expanding behavioral health services, and launching a campaign to educate the public about fentanyl.
