U.S. Senators Jim Risch, John Cornyn, Ted Cruz, Cynthia Lummis, Thom Tillis, and Katie Britt have addressed a letter to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) Director Steve Dettelbach. The senators are urging the agency to halt further rulemaking activities and instead allocate resources towards facilitating the transition to the incoming Trump administration.

The letter emphasizes the importance of preparing for this transition: "We write to strongly encourage the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) to firmly commit to and focus on preparing for the transition to the incoming Administration of President-elect Donald J. Trump," stated the senators.

They highlighted that it is crucial for the new administration's key figures—including the next Attorney General, Deputy Attorney General, and ATF Director—to have "the opportunity and ability to set ATF’s priorities and future direction." According to them, a seamless transition is vital for ATF's effectiveness in fulfilling its mission against violent crime.
