Senators introduce bills advocating for women's rights in sports

U.S. Senators Jim Risch, Mike Crapo, and Marsha Blackburn have introduced a series of legislative measures aimed at supporting women and girls in sports. The proposed legislation includes a bill to evaluate and prevent violence against women in athletics, alongside resolutions targeting the National Collegiate Athletic Association's (NCAA) transgender student-athlete eligibility policy and establishing October 10 as 'American Girls in Sports Day.'

Senator Risch emphasized the importance of fairness in sports, stating, "Life isn’t fair, but sports should be. Allowing biological men to compete in women’s sports undermines the years of hard work and dedication of our female athletes." He expressed pride in introducing legislation intended to ensure equitable competition for female athletes.

Echoing these sentiments, Senator Crapo highlighted the commitment of female athletes, noting that their efforts are compromised by allowing biological males to compete in women's categories. "I will continue to do all I can to counter attempts to undermine the integrity of women’s sports," he stated.

The legislative package introduced by Risch, Crapo, and Blackburn includes the Fair Play for Girls Act. This act mandates the U.S. Attorney General to provide Congress with an analysis of violence against women in athletics along with policy recommendations.

Additionally, a resolution calls on the NCAA to revoke its current transgender student-athlete eligibility policy. It urges conformity across member conferences based on biological sex and seeks protection for women's sports categories exclusively for biological females.

Furthermore, a resolution proposes recognizing October 10 as 'American Girls in Sports Day' to honor the achievements of female athletes.
