U.S. Senator Mike Crapo and a group of colleagues have come together to urge the Acting Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness, Ashish Vazirani, to promote collaboration between the U.S. Department of Defense, the U.S. Department of Education, and the U.S. Department of Labor in highlighting military service as a valuable career option.
In a joint letter, the Senators emphasized the importance of providing students with information about various career paths, including military enlistment. The letter stated, “We feel that our schools must have insight into post-high school outcomes for all students, including those who enter the military. An educator’s ability to accurately communicate the benefits of all available career paths, including military enlistment, is essential when preparing students for college and other future careers. As Senators committed to supporting our military and education systems, we emphasize the importance of their request and encourage the DoD to prioritize engaging with our states on this matter.”
Alongside Senator Crapo, the letter was signed by Senators Jerry Moran, Bill Cassidy, Shelley Moore Capito, Bill Hagerty, Maggie Hassan, Tim Kaine, Catherine Cortez Masto, Roger Marshall, Chris Murphy, Patty Murray, Mitt Romney, Kyrsten Sinema, and Thom Tillis.
The Senators' call for better recognition of military career options highlights their dedication to ensuring that students are well-informed about the opportunities available to them after high school. The full text of the letter can be found on the Senate website for further reference.
