WASHINGTON—Idaho Congressman Mike Simpson has successfully secured funding for the Treasure Valley Law Enforcement Childcare Center Project in Idaho. The $2.65 million allocation for this project was included in the Fiscal Year 2024 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies Bill.
In a statement, Rep. Simpson emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “Idaho is blessed with some of the best police officers in the nation.” He further explained the necessity of the childcare center for law enforcement families, ensuring they have accessible and affordable childcare options during demanding shifts.
The National Law Enforcement Foundation expressed their pride in collaborating with Rep. Simpson on this project. CEO Jim Mackay highlighted the importance of providing customized childcare and early childhood education to Idaho's law enforcement officers.
Former Idaho State Police Detective, Angelie Hoxie, expressed gratitude for Rep. Simpson’s support, stating, “Recognizing the urgent demand, he spearheaded initiatives to improve childcare and early childhood education, catering more effectively to the needs of Idaho’s Law Enforcement families.”
John Otter from J.R. Simplot Co. commended Rep. Simpson for his recognition of law enforcement's crucial role in communities. Otter mentioned being part of the coalition that will create an innovative model for childcare, leading Idaho in addressing workforce issues impacting those who protect the community.
The funding secured by Rep. Simpson will be utilized to construct a childcare center specifically for law enforcement officers in Treasure Valley, Idaho. This project aims to provide safe and secure childcare and education coverage tailored to the needs of law enforcement families, addressing a significant requirement within Idaho law enforcement.
As Idaho’s only appropriator, Rep. Simpson has taken a stand for Idaho’s priorities, ensuring that tax dollars are directed back to the state. Notably, he was the sole member of the Idaho delegation to vote in favor of funding for the Treasure Valley Law Enforcement Childcare Center.
