WASHINGTON—Idaho Congressman Mike Simpson has successfully secured funding for the Workforce Housing for Critically Endangered Species Recovery Project in Boise, Idaho. The $3.1 million allocation was made through the Community Project Funding (CPF) in the Fiscal Year 2024 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies Bill.

Rep. Simpson emphasized the importance of this funding by stating, “For years, The Peregrine Fund's World Center for Birds of Prey has needed workforce housing improvements and an updated local access road.”

Former Governor of Idaho, Dirk Kempthorne, praised Simpson's efforts, stating, “Once again, Mike Simpson has demonstrated he's an effective champion for the good of Idaho.”

Hilarie Engle, Executive Director of Idaho Fish and Wildlife Foundation, acknowledged the impact of the funding on the California Condor populations, saying, “The health and safety of the wild California Condor populations across the west are directly impacted by the work of The Peregrine Fund here in Idaho.”

Chris N. Parish, President and CEO for The Peregrine Fund, expressed gratitude for the funding, mentioning, “Species recovery like that of the California Condor requires partners and champions. Congressman Simpson is a shining example of both.”

The allocated funds will be utilized to rebuild housing units, repair the access road, and purchase backup generators to support the continuous operation of essential systems. These improvements are crucial for the conservation efforts of the critically endangered California condor and the safety of staff and visitors.

Rep. Simpson's advocacy for Idaho's priorities and effective utilization of funding showcases his commitment to the state. He was the sole member of the Idaho delegation to vote in favor of funding for the Workforce Housing for Critically Endangered Species Recovery Project.
