U.S. Senators Mike Crapo and Jim Risch, both representing Idaho, have raised concerns over the Biden Administration's decision to sell materials intended for the construction of a border wall. The senators argue that this action worsens the illegal immigration crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border and undermines national security efforts.

In a joint statement, Crapo and Risch expressed their dissatisfaction with the Department of Defense (DOD) for selling these materials. They stated, "By opting to sell materials intended for the construction of the border wall, DOD is exacerbating the ongoing illegal immigration crisis and subverting Congress’s statutory mandate to strengthen border security."

The senators emphasized that Idahoans are aware of the national security threat posed by issues at the southern border. They noted that communities in Idaho are affected by drug trafficking and human trafficking resulting from what they describe as an unchecked flow across the border.

Crapo and Risch called on the Department of Defense to fulfill its obligation to protect U.S. security. "The Department of Defense has a clear obligation to protect the security of the United States, and we urge you to uphold that responsibility," they wrote.

The letter further criticized DOD's decision-making process: "The DOD could have continued construction of the southern border wall with these materials, but instead chose to prioritize politics over the safety of our citizens."

A full version of their letter is available for public viewing.
