U.S. Senator Mike Crapo, representing Idaho, has joined a group of senators in urging the Biden Administration to halt any last-minute plans to breach four hydroelectric dams on the lower Snake River. The letter, spearheaded by Senator Jim Risch, also from Idaho, was addressed to U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm.
Senators Cynthia Lummis from Wyoming, Steve Daines from Montana, and John Barrasso from Wyoming also signed the letter alongside Crapo and Risch. The group emphasized that "the incoming administration should be allowed the time and opportunity to carefully review and shape the management of the Columbia River System, including the lower Snake River dams."
The letter highlighted concerns about excluding key stakeholders in energy, agriculture, transportation, and other sectors from discussions regarding the future of the Federal Columbia River Power System. The senators stated that this exclusion "not only undermines the principles of fair governance but also increases the risk for devastating economic and social consequences."
