Washington, D.C.--U.S. Senators Mike Crapo and Jim Risch (both R-Idaho) have voted in favor of a Congressional Review Act (CRA) resolution aimed at overturning the Biden Administration’s Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) rule. The rule in question sought to require states to measure tailpipe emissions and establish declining targets to reduce emissions from roadway travel. Alongside 48 Senate colleagues, Crapo and Risch co-sponsored this resolution.
In a statement, Mike Crapo expressed his concerns, stating, "The Biden Administration continues to push its climate agenda at the expense of all who use America’s highways." He further emphasized, "This rule places an unnecessary burden on states, especially rural states such as Idaho."
Similarly, Jim Risch criticized the administration's approach, particularly in regard to electric vehicles, stating, “Electric vehicles are far from realistic for everyone, especially in rural Idaho where they are completely impractical for our way of life." Risch reiterated his opposition by saying, “Today, I again opposed the Biden administration’s unrealistic, overreaching greenhouse gas rule."
Risch also highlighted the potential consequences of such regulations, asserting, "The administration cannot box states into unfeasible green-energy standards that impede routine travel, industry operations, and consumer choice."
