U.S. Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Mike Crapo issued a statement following his meeting with Jamieson Greer, the nominee for U.S. Trade Representative by President-elect Donald Trump. Crapo emphasized the importance of the role in negotiating and enforcing trade agreements to ensure competitive opportunities for American businesses globally.
"The U.S. Trade Representative will play a critical role in the next Administration by negotiating and enforcing trade agreements that ensure American businesses have the opportunity to compete in global markets," said Crapo.
He highlighted Greer's previous experience in trade matters, noting his work during the earlier Trump Administration as a key qualification. "Jamieson's extensive trade experience – including in the previous Trump Administration – makes him well equipped to crack down on unfair trade practices and fight for market access for our farmers and manufacturers," Crapo added.
Crapo expressed eagerness to expedite Greer's nomination process within the committee, stating, "I look forward to working with my colleagues to quickly consider his nomination before the Committee."
